Innovative Public Outreach Leader
Tracy Craig founded Craig Communications 16 years ago with an income tax refund and a passion for serving the public. Today, the single mother of two operates a successful woman-owned business with three locations in California.
The firm specializes in innovative public outreach programs that engage and involve diverse populations and give voice to under-represented community members. Craig is a recognized leader in public participation and securing community awareness and involvement in complex and controversial projects. She’s been successful on some of the toughest land use and development projects on the West Coast.
Craig’s colleagues say she’s a leader with a passion for grass roots community involvement who exemplifies innovation, diversity, and engagement in the workplace. Her numerous successes include spearheading a hiring program for the unemployed and homeless, developing a supplier diversity and mentorship program targeted at underserved populations, and establishing a business networking program for Latino suppliers.
She relies on a talented stable of local, small, and diverse suppliers and routinely partners with non-governmental organizations and community-based groups.
Craig lives by the words “be kind and give more than you take.” She donates a percentage of the company’s annual profits and earlier this year established a $50,000 Craig Communications Scholarship Program for underserved high school students. She operates an in-house mentorship program for underserved youth interested in the communications sector and she and her staff regularly volunteer in communities where they support projects. She also gives her staff paid time off to volunteer at a social organization of their choice.
Craig says she knew she had the perfect career fit when she was able to offer her employees the work environment she always wanted for herself: interesting and meaningful work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, diverse, flexible, and fun setting. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from San Diego State University.

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon with USACE and all the attendees. The Open House actually turned out quite well, especially having the question and answer period. You’re a perfect moderator and we loved how you selected the audience members a few at a time. Our meeting with USACE Lt Col Dianna Lively went quite well. What a remarkable woman and officer!
You must be quite proud of Sarah working with you. Watch out! She’s gonna take over someday and you can rest on you laurels and let her do the work!
See you soon for lunch!
