Lawyer Paving Positive Path for Children

Susan Stucker is a corporate lawyer and mentor committed to opening a positive pathway for children in need in Florida. For the past three decades, she’s devoted thousands of pro bono hours to giving a voice to abused, neglected or abandoned children.

Stucker is vice president of legal – litigation, risk, and employment law at HD Supply, one of the largest industrial distributors in North America. She’s responsible for all areas of litigation, risk management, and employment law for the HD Supply enterprise.

She is an expert in her field and reduced the company’s employment litigation exponentially over her first two years with the company. She’s known for routinely providing advice and guidance to aspiring lawyers and students and is devoted to pursuing excellence in the legal profession, while raising the bar for diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Stucker also serves as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem (GAL) investigating solutions for the best interests of abused, neglected or abandoned children in Florida. As a GAL, she’s assisted more than 100 children in 54 cases, and volunteered over 5,000 pro bono hours on closed cases. Her colleagues say she has an innate ability of lifting up those around her without seeking recognition. They also say she inspires them with her steadfast commitment to helping those in need.

Earlier in her career, she served as senior counsel for Sprint and in private practice. She describes making the shift from private practice to the corporate world as her biggest career leap. “I learned the importance and beauty of teamwork,” she said.

Stucker believes integrity is the most important quality for any leader. She is a two time recipient of the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Ninth Judicial Circuit.  She lives by the phrase, “be present – be in the moment. Don’t spend your life worrying about the past and the future. Focus on now.” She holds a B.A. and J.D. from Florida State University and is a member of the Association of Corporate Council.
