Lawyer with Passion for Healthcare

Attorney Kenya Woodruff is passionate about helping others. As a partner in an international law firm, she dedicates her professional career to healthcare and her civic endeavors to mentoring the next generation.

Woodruff is a partner at Haynes and Boone, LLP, where she’s chair of the firms’ Healthcare Practice Group. Her practice entails healthcare regulatory counsel and the design and execution of related merger, acquisition, and joint venture partnerships.

Woodruff says she found her niche area after discovering a need to focus on legal areas where she had a substantial impact on the lives of others. “As I learned about the manner in which healthcare transactions and regulatory compliance affected the delivery of healthcare to our communities, I knew it was for me,” she said.

Her legal career centers around creating and maintaining compliant healthcare operations and structures for physicians, hospitals, home health and hospice providers, including accountable care organizations and the proper utilization of nonprofit health organizations. Her practice also includes advice on compliance with HIPAA/HITECH, and other fraud and abuse laws.

Woodruff chairs the firms’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee, where she oversees the recruitment, retention, promotion, and development of diverse attorneys. Her colleagues say she takes the initiative one step further in guiding diverse young students and professionals in career and college planning.

She is an active board member with The Health Industry Council Foundation and also with AIDS Arms, Inc. She has also served as chair of the Health Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association, and co-chair for the Dallas Bar Association’s Law in the Schools Committee.

Prior to joining Haynes and Boone, Woodruff served as deputy general counsel at the Parkland Health and Hospital System, where she was responsible for government investigations and providing legal support for the hospital’s daily operations.

Her numerous accolades include being recognized by Chambers USA in Healthcare and by D Magazine Best Lawyers in Healthcare. She has also been named a Texas Super Lawyer, and was appointed to serve on the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners for two  six-year terms. Woodruff holds a J.D. from Duke University and a B.A. from Emory University.
